Based on client feedback we have increased the file size limit to upload a document using Add It to 50 GB, meaning you can upload much larger files than before. The previous limit was 250 MB which was quite restrictive but also meant that any valid file would almost always upload successfully.
Large files can take a very long time to upload, and will depend heavily on the user's internet connection and the device they are using. Users who uploaded 250 MB files successfully may find that they are unable to upload larger files due to their device or internet connection speed.
Out of Memory errors
It is possible for machines with a low amount of RAM to experience an "out of memory" error and fail the upload - the lower the RAM the more likely for this to occur. This is a technical limitation that cannot be prevented from our side, so if the user expects to be frequently uploading large files and are seeing this error they may need a device with more RAM installed.
Another option is to add the file to a folder on your machine which is synced to OneDrive, and once the OneDrive client syncs it to the cloud, use Add It to upload to SharePoint directly from your OneDrive - this will be a cloud-to-cloud transfer which will not be limited by your machine.
