Overview
Today, we are excited to share the highlights of our latest Atlas 5.4 release, packed with innovative features designed to streamline workflows and expand the platform’s capabilities.
We’ve introduced functional improvements aimed at making your tasks more intuitive and efficient. The Default Link for ConneX Cards Settings allows administrators to customize whether links open in Teams or SharePoint, ensuring a consistent navigation experience. Our Mandatory Reads feature now supports metadata filters and site scope, displaying only the most relevant information based on workspace permissions. The My Links feature now automatically saves changes, reducing the risk of losing important updates.
To improve event management, we’ve added a time-zone display for event creation in Add It and now show the year for event display modes in In Focus, making it easier to navigate past and future events. For our external users, we’ve introduced a feature that allows for a different logo and background image for those not in the Atlas Trusted External Users group, ensuring a distinct and personalized experience.
On the technical side, we’ve made substantial improvements. The Learning & Development and Ideas features are deprecated, with tools to help administrators manage the transition. We’ve improved the spacing of elements above the In Focus Results web part for a better layout. Lastly, the Advanced Infrastructure Configuration option (premium add-on) offers enhanced network management configuration, reflecting our commitment to robust and secure solutions.
Key Features & Capabilities
Mandatory Reads with Metadata Filters and Site Scope
Default Link for ConneX Cards Settings & My Links Auto-Saving Changes
Events Display Time-Zone for Creation & Show Year for Display Modes
Different Logo and Background Image for External Users (Extranet)
Mandatory Reads with Metadata Filters and Site Scope
The Mandatory Reads feature has been significantly enhanced to support metadata filters, site scope and hiding read documents from the list, providing users with a more targeted and relevant content experience. Editors can now set up tags to filter Mandatory Reads content, ensuring that only the most pertinent information is displayed based on metadata tags and workspace permissions. Additionally, users can view mandatory read items specific to their current workspace or across all workspaces, depending on the configuration. This improvement ensures that assigned, active, and non-expired mandatory reads are consistently visible, keeping users informed and focused on essential content.
Default Link for ConneX Cards Settings & My Links Auto-Saving Changes
Administrators can now set the default behaviour for ConneX card links globally, specifying whether they open in Teams or SharePoint by default. This customization ensures a consistent and user-friendly navigation experience, enhancing the flexibility and usability of ConneX cards across different workspaces. Yammer-based workspaces will continue to link to the Yammer community, remaining unaffected by this setting.
The My Links feature now automatically saves changes, eliminating the need for an extra save button. Users can reorder, edit, or add new links with confidence, as changes are saved instantly without additional clicks. This update reduces the risk of losing important updates and streamlines the management of personal links, enhancing overall user experience.
Events Display Time-Zone for Creation & Show Year for Display Modes
To improve clarity and prevent scheduling errors, the time zone is now displayed for event creation date and time fields in the Add It feature. This addition provides users with a clear indication of the time zone, aligning with SharePoint's standard event creation functionality. It helps users coordinate events more effectively, ensuring everyone is aware of the correct start and end times, simplifying event management and reducing misunderstandings.
The In Focus web part now includes the year in its event display modes, making it easier to differentiate events from different years. This update applies to display modes such as Card, Flip Card, Hero, In the Spotlight, and Visual Card. By showing the year, users can quickly identify the temporal context of events, enhancing navigation and management of past and future activities.
Different Logo and Background Image for External Users (Extranet)
To provide a distinct experience for external guest users, we have introduced a feature that displays a different logo and background image for users not in the Atlas Trusted External Users group. This ensures that external users accessing an Atlas extranet have a tailored visual experience that differentiates them from internal users. If the specific GuestsLogo.png and GuestsBanner.png files are present in the Atlas Assets library Image folder, they will be displayed for these users. This customization supports branding and personalization efforts, enhancing the overall user experience for extranet scenarios.
Other Updates
Deprecation of Learning & Development and Ideas in Atlas
With the Atlas 5.4 release, we are deprecating the Learning & Development and Ideas features to streamline the platform's focus on core functionalities. Tools are provided to help administrators identify and manage pages affected by this change, ensuring a smooth transition. The L&D Center is removed from new deployments starting with this release, and Ideation and L&D templates are marked as deprecated by default. This simplification allows us to concentrate on enhancing the most critical and widely used features.
Other Improvements
We have enhanced the spacing logic for elements above the In Focus Results web part to create a more compact and visually appealing layout. Elements like Quick Add It, results count, sorting controls, and carousel counting now take up minimal space, improving the overall user experience. Additionally, the CPUpdateStatus column in Atlas Configuration has been renamed to "System Status" to avoid confusion with other status indicators, providing clearer context and reducing misunderstandings.
