In this article we will be providing a high-level overview of the Atlas Configuration Workspace.
This is a central area where Atlas tools, settings, and assets can be reviewed and configured. As such, only the Atlas project team and IT Admins, and those responsible for managing content and tools here, should have edit or ownership access. However, every user of Atlas will at least need Visitor (read only) permissions to this workspace so they can view the tools and assets shown across Atlas which are stored here, such as the logo and menu.
The Atlas Configuration workspace is the only workspace/site collection to be created when Atlas is first installed. You can get to the Atlas Configuration site by following this URL and replacing the clientname with your 365 tenant name. (https://clientname.sharepoint.com/sites/atlasconfiguration/SitePages/Home.aspx)
This workspace is the equivalent of the Atlas toolbox. There are various changes that can be made to tailor Atlas to your needs. The first training session on your onboarding to Atlas will cover the Atlas Configuration site in more detail.
It is used to configure:
- Atlas Assets, including main menu banner colour, Atlas logo, Placeholder images for Atlas cards
- Footer links
- Launchpad links
- Feedback subjects
- Suggested my links
- Themes
- Alerts
- Tenant Properties
- Term Store backup and exporting manually into Excel
Atlas Logo, main menu banner colour, launchpad links, Themes, and Tenant Properties, will all be essential set-up tasks for you to complete within the Atlas Configuration site.
IT administrators can also use the Atlas configuration workspace to check on the Atlas deployment and update status and also to perform an Atlas API health check.
Permissions
All users will require at least read permission to the Atlas configuration workspace as this will enable them to use the Atlas core components.
The deployment ensures that a SharePoint Group called Everyone except external users is created in the Atlas Configuration site inside the Atlas Configuration Visitors SharePoint Group. If any users in your Atlas tenant see an error in the main menu area, they need permissions to the Atlas Configuration site.
We advise that members and owners permissions are kept to a minimum.
Tenant Properties
The Atlas Configuration workspace includes the Tenant Properties page which allows a number of Atlas settings to be managed from a single location only accessible to Microsoft 365 Administrators.
To access the tenant properties, access the Atlas Configuration workspace, Click on the SharePoint cog in the top right and select Site Contents
Click on the Site Pages library and find the page called Tenant Properties

Atlas.SearchScopes.Groups - allows you to amend the search scope buttons (options you see appear in Atlas when you click the 'search' tool (magnifying glass icon) from the main menu.)
Atlas.Alerts.Styles - allows you to alter the Alert branding and style, including the alert background colour, text colour, bell icon colour
