In Focus Results web parts in Atlas can be connected to an In Focus Search Box web part to allow users to type in their own query to filter the results. One or more In Focus Results web parts can be connected to a single Search Box to allow filtering across multiple experiences from one query.
In this article we will describe all configuration options for the Search Box web part on its own. For configurations related to connecting to In Focus results web parts please see below:
In this article:
Add the In Focus Search Box web part to a page
To use the search box you first need to add it to the page. We assume you already have an In Focus Results web part on the same page to connect it to.
- Edit the page then click the + within a section to add a web part:
- Type "search box" and choose the one with the teal-coloured icon:
Configure the Search Box
Before editing the configuration, note that you can add a title to the Search Box by clicking above the box and typing:
To see the rest of the configuration options, click on the web part then click the edit icon to open the configuration panel on the right side of the screen:
Next we can look at the different configuration sections and the options in each.
Search box section
The first section here contains two options:
- Placeholder text and translations - set the text shown in the search box before the user starts typing, and provide translations for this text if needed
- Send the query to a new page - if you turn this on then when pressing Enter or clicking to search your query, the query will be sent to a different page to display the results.
Layout section
In this section you can turn on Container Styling. This allows you to use a colour or image as the background for the web part:
Query suggestions section
In this section you can enable Query suggestions. There are 3 potential sources available for this feature - SharePoint search, Microsoft search and SmartHub search (if you have SmartHub).
To enable this, first set the toggle in this section to On, then below 2 more options will appear. Click the button to choose which sources are used of the 3 available (see screenshot above), and use the slider below to determine how many suggestions to display from each source.
Connections section
In this section you can configure the search box to pull in a value from another source as a query. This is not commonly used as it prevents the search box from actually being used in the expected way. If you think you need to use this functionality please get in touch via support.
If you want to connect In Focus Results web parts to the search box, this is done from the Connections section of the Results web part itself, nothing needs to be done on the Search Box side. See here: Connect an In Focus Search Box to an In Focus web part
Import/Export settings section
This works the same way as all other Atlas web parts. Learn more here: Export and Import Settings for Atlas web parts
