Note: This article has been modified because Microsoft have changed the behaviour of recordings so that Teams Meeting recordings are stored in the OneDrive of the person recording.
However, you can still follow the same approach by uploading the recording from your OneDrive to Microsoft Stream.
Microsoft Teams allows you to record your meeting and have it automatically uploaded to your OneDrive. In this article we explain how to upload and publish your recording in Microsoft Stream and make it available for everyone in your company to view.
In this article:
- Record your meeting
- Stop the recording
- View the meeting recording
- Publish the recording to your whole organisation
- Share the recording link to your colleagues
Record your meeting
To start recording your Microsoft Teams meeting, click the ellipsis (...) at the top of the meeting window:
From that menu click Start recording:
If you cannot see this option you may not have permission to start the recording - in this case you should ask the meeting organiser to start the recording.
A warning will appear for all users to let them know the meeting is being recorded, but it is always courteous to verbally warn attendees before starting the recording.
Stop the recording
To stop recording the meeting you can either finish the meeting which will automatically stop the recording once everyone leaves, or you can stop it manually by going to the ellipsis again and this time clicking Stop recording:
View the meeting recording
The user who recorded the meeting plus all the attendees will be able to view the recording in their OneDrive once it has been processed. To find the recording, the person who recorded it can find it in their OneDrive or the chat window from the meeting in Microsoft Teams.
For other attendees, they can go back to the meeting chat in Microsoft Teams and find the recording tile, but depending on other factors they may not have access to the recording in OneDrive.
Publish the recording to your whole organisation or to a dedicated Team
As the person who recorded a meeting, you are the Owner of the recording and it stored in your OneDrive so you are able to publish it for your whole organisation to see, or to a Team rather than only the attendees.
To do this, first go to Microsoft Stream, either from the Office 365 App Launcher or from the meeting recording in the Teams Chat as above.
First, click Create at the top of the page and choose Upload video, then browse to your OneDrive and upload the meeting recording.
After uploading, choose My Content > Videos from the top menu:
Find your meeting recording, then to the right, click the pencil icon to edit the details. Note that if the yellow "person" icon below is already green for your video then it is already shared with your whole organisation and you don't need to take any further steps. If it is yellow as below then continue:
In the middle section of the video details is the Permissions panel. Check the first box to make the video available to your whole organisation:
After checking this box, click Apply at the top of the page to apply the change:
Share the recording link to your colleagues
Now that all your colleagues will be able to view the video, you can click Share to get a direct link to the video. Since all your colleagues will have access, you can simply send them the link via whichever communications tool you prefer.
