News Articles are created using Add It. First, click the Add It button in the top right of the page:
Once the wizard loads confirm or choose the workspace you want to add News to. By default Add It will select the workspace you were working in when you clicked the Add It button.
Create a News Article
- To add a News Article, choose Site Pages, then choose the News Page style:
- A preview of the page type you've chosen will appear below your selections:
- Next you need to provide the title and metadata for your article:
- On the left, enter the Title and choose the News Type and Date that you want to show on the article. Note that you can choose any date, and the News web part will use this date to show the News in date order.
- Next, fill in the global tags - if you want to push your article to specific pages or workspaces you should remove the generic tag and choose the tags matching those pages or workspaces, e.g. tag your Finance Department if you want the article to appear on pages with the "Finance" Department tag.
- If you don't need to push to specific pages or workspaces you can just leave the default values.
- Next, you can open the Optional metadata section and set the following:
-
- Author, Reference and Reference Date fields are not required by the system, but can be filled in if required by your organisation.
- Status is not used by default, but your organisation may require status to be set.
- You can choose to Override User Preferences but this should be understood before you set it.
- Finally you can open the Security section and set the following:
- Once you have filled in the form, click Submit to create your page. You will be redirected to your page, in Edit mode, ready for you to start adding content.
Add page content
The News Page layout is slightly different from the standard page layout and comes with some default web parts:
- At the top of the page there is a banner area which allows you to choose a banner image and set the Contact for the page:
- Below the banner on the right you will see the Useful Links and Related News web parts. The Related News web part shows other News items with the same News Type tag. You can remove these web parts if you wish.
- Below the banner on the left is where you can add the content for your News article. Click where you see the prompt Add your text here to start typing, or click and paste in your pre-written content.
- At the bottom of the page, by default for News articles the Comments function is turned on. If you wish, you can turn this off for this article by changing the toggle to Off:
When you are done, click Publish in the top right to make the page available to all users:
If you just want to save your changes for another Editor to review, click Save as Draft in the top left:
