Like all digital solutions Atlas leverages a 'home' or 'root site' which acts as the gateway into Atlas and is 'pinned' in the main menu so users have an easy way to navigate back to their homepage. We call this the Atlas home page or Atlas landing area.
In this article we will explain the steps required to change the Home landing page for Atlas and also how to alter the SharePoint Online 'root site' in M365 to ensure the correct area loads by default when opening the SharePoint app in Microsoft 365.

Atlas Home page
Firstly, it would be wise to ensure the definitions of sites, pages, and home, are understood correctly for context.
- Functionally, due to Atlas's workspace-based modular/horizontal Architecture, the Atlas home site is just another workspace. It's the back-end settings in both Atlas and SharePoint which fix it as your home landing area to both Atlas and SharePoint. So...
- The Atlas home page needs to be a page within a workspace. We advise a dedicated Communications workspace is used, and that the workspace homepage (i.e. the page you land on when you navigate to the workspace/site URL in SharePoint Online) should become the Atlas home area, meaning permissions, content and configuration for the Atlas home area is managed just like any other workspace.
- During each implementation ClearPeople will provision an 'Atlas Home' workspace which will be set-up to act as, you've guessed it, your home page. When a user selects the Atlas or platform logo, they are taken to this workspace landing page, now acting as your Atlas home, and SharePoint root site if needed.
Atlas 'home' - Altering the Atlas tenant property to set the main menu logo URL
Through the Atlas Configuration site you can navigate to Tenant Properties (instructions for this found here) and alter the URL that sits behind the main Atlas logo in the main menu.
The tenant property is called 'Atlas.LandingPage.Url' and you only have to alter the input value to the workspace you want to set as your Atlas home site. You will land in the workspace homepage (see point 2 above)
You will need to refresh your Atlas cache for the change to take place.
The result being, when a user clicks the logo they are taken to the Atlas home page of the Atlas workspace you have selected to be the main Atlas home.
SharePoint 'home' or Root site - swapping the root site in your SharePoint tenant (Microsoft Powershell Command & instructions)
All SharePoint sites and Atlas workspaces have a URL which follows this convention:
https://TENANT-NAME.sharepoint.com/sites/atlas
Swapping the a 'root site' in SharePoint to an Atlas workspace will ensure that navigating to https://TENANT-NAME.sharepoint.com will land you in the desired Atlas workspace home landing page.
As this is standard Microsoft functionality please follow the instructions within this article:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/sharepoint-online/invoke-spositeswap
As we should be working with a new Atlas workspace this should be straight forward, however you will need to install the Microsoft.Online.SharePoint.PowerShell module.
Please note that although Microsoft will handle the redirects from any static links as the original site URL will still function, the main menu has permission trimming functions which will stop any 'older' now outdated links from working. We advise that after the root site swap is invoked, the main menu is checked and all links pointing to the home site are updated to the new shorter root site URL.
