Copy the URL you want to use for your Spotlight
The first thing to do when creating a Spotlight is to copy the URL you want the link to go to. If this is to an external website simply go to the content you want to link to and copy the link from the address bar in your browser:
You can easily get a link to an Atlas content item from ellipsis (...) the In Focus card in any Listing page. For Documents you should use the "Copy file path" function, while for Knowledge pages and other content you should use the "Copy URL" function.
Create a Spotlight
Spotlights are created via the Add It wizard. Click the Add It button in the top right to start:
Once the wizard loads confirm or choose the workspace you want to add it to.
- To add a Spotlight choose Spotlights:
- Next, fill in the details:
- Make sure you set the Title, paste the link to the item in the URL field and set the Valid from and Valid to dates with a sensible time range:
- The Title is shown on the In Focus card for the item
- The URL is where users are sent when they click the Spotlight item
- The Summary is text shown when hovering over the Spotlight item
- The Date is shown on the In Focus card - you can set a date in the past or in the future without restrictions
- Click the calendar icon on the right of the Valid from and Valid to dates to choose the time range when this Spotlight should be shown to users.
- The Order is optional, but allows you to enter a number for each Spotlight to set the order it will appear relative to the other Spotlights.
- Next, fill in the global tags - if you want to push your spotlight to specific pages or workspaces you should remove the generic tag and choose the tags matching those pages or workspaces, e.g. tag your Finance Department if you want the spotlight to appear on pages with the "Finance" tag.
- If you don't need to push to specific pages or workspaces you can just leave the default values.
- Next, open the Optional metadata section and set the following:
- Set Show to "Yes" so that the item can appear
- Set Open in new tab to "Yes" if you want the Spotlight to open the link in a new browser tab when clicked. This is recommended if the link takes the user outside of Atlas.
- Finally you can open the Security section and set the following:
- Once you are happy with your selections click Submit at the bottom of the page:
