Copy the URL you want for your Useful Link
The first thing to do when creating a Useful Link is to copy the URL you want the link to go to. If this is to an external website simply go to the content you want to link to and copy the link from the address bar in your browser:
You can easily get a link to an Atlas content item from ellipsis (...) the In Focus card in any Listing page. For Documents you should use the "Copy file path" function, while for Knowledge pages and other content you should use the "Copy URL" function.
Create a Useful Link
Useful Links can be added using the Add It wizard. Click the Add It button in the top right of the page:
When you arrive in Add It, the wizard will automatically choose the workspace you were just in, but you can change this by picking a different one from the list.
- To add a Useful Link, after confirming the workspace to add to, under "What are you contributing?" choose Useful Links:
- Next, fill in the fields as required:
- The left hand fields determine how the link is configured:
- Set the Title to display for the link
- Paste the URL you copied before you started
- For the Operating System, you can restrict which devices the link appears on. For example if you know that the link will not render properly on mobile devices you can deselect All and instead select Windows, MacOS and Linux.
- Next, fill in the global tags on the right - if you want to push your link to specific pages or workspaces you should remove the generic tag and choose the tags matching those pages or workspaces, e.g. tag your Finance Department if you want the document to appear on pages with the "Finance" Department tag.
- If you wish you can open the Optional metadata section and modify the following:
- Choose whether the link opens in a new tab by setting the Open in new tab toggle
- Show or hide the link
- Set users or groups in the Content Targeting field if you want to only show this link to a subset of users. To target this link, start typing the names of users or groups and click the ones you want to target to:
- Set an Image for your link by clicking the Browse Image button.
- Finally you can open the Security section and set the following:
- When you have added all required metadata, click the Submit button below the form to submit your link:
