This article describes how we handle releases from planning, through implementation and into support.

Release cycle timing
Atlas releases have a quarterly cadence. You may expect that a new version of Atlas is released and made available for update four times per year with a guide schedule of, January-February (Q1), April-May (Q2), August-September (Q3) and November-December (Q4).
You should plan for each release to be deployed to your environments within an 8 week window that starts from officially published availability date of the release.
How do we provide release details
You will receive details for each upcoming release through different channels including but not limited to:
- Atlas newsletter (quarterly)
- Regular review calls
- CSA/Implementation lead direct messages
- Atlas town hall online event
Implementation of a new release
When a new version is available your CSA will inform you and work together with you to provide you with access to the relevant update scripts.
The planning for the updates can be done well in advance as we provide you with our Atlas Release Cycle giving you full insight in all upcoming release dates.
Your CSA or Implementation Consultant will coordinate with you the exact date to execute the upgrade scripts as we want to make sure we have availability to support you in case any issues might arise.
We will also always indicate if we will be launching a major or a minor release version
Support
In our article on Release States and Impact on support you can find all details on what versions we are able to provide support on. You'll notice we can fully support all version on Controlled Availability (CA), General Availability (GA) and legacy.
As soon as release versions go into an "Unsupported" state we're not able anymore to properly support that version.
Due to the evergreen nature of Microsoft 365 and Azure (the platforms required to run Atlas) it's highly recommended to update environments to a General Availability release as soon as possible, as we keep adapting Atlas to any changes that Microsoft apply (These Microsoft changes can happen at anytime with typically short notice (between 3-8 weeks)).
