This article describes the different types of release we use to distribute new Atlas versions to our customer base.
As per our Atlas Release Process we will always clearly indicate the type of release (Major or Minor)
Topics in this article
Major Release
When we talk about a Major Release then this will be a release where you can expect to see a certain level of user impact.
For example their might be infrastructure changes related to the upgrade, as with the deployment of Atlas 3.0, which will be part of a major release.
Communications from ClearPeople to customers will happen via multiple channels as described in our Atlas Release Process but it will also be important the client pushes internal communications out to the user base so that everybody is informed of the expected service interruption.
Information about the different releases can be obtained from the Releases notes in your Atlas Config section https://<YourAtlasUrl>/sites/atlasconfiguration
Example of a Major Release:
Atlas 3.0.377-20210830 - 30/08/2021
The new Atlas ConneX 3.0 and other improvements were delivered in this release. The new improvements required execution of background scripts to apply the infrastructure changes, the process required some hours to be completed and the recommendation was not using Connex while the scripts were executed because some random issues could be detected by users using it.
Minor Release
We expect minor release versions to almost be transparent to the end user but also here their might be small interruptions of services at the moment of the upgrade.
Communications from ClearPeople to customers will happen via multiple channels as described in our Atlas Release Process but we also advice clients push internal communications out to their user base.
Example of a Minor Release:
Atlas 2.3.136-20210430 - 30/04/2021
This release included the new HoverPoint component and other small improvements. The new component didn´t impact any client because it wasn´t used in any page. A small interruption could happened while the new small improvements code was delivered but it was processed quickly and no issues were reported.
