In this article we'll show you how you can add an idea to your ideation workspace
In this article:
Add your idea
As per best practice you should use Add It, or Quick Add It, to add your idea to your workspace. In this example we're using Add It.
Click on Add It and make sure your ideation workspace is selected as the workspace to contribute to:
In the content section of the form you select "Site Pages" as in fact every idea is a page. As style of the page you select "Idea":
You get a preview of the page. Hit "Next":
As for any other content you add, you now have to provide your default metadata. We have the "Status" as a mandatory value to set (usually this is not mandatory) and we have populated by default 3 possible status values: New, In Progress, Completed. As explained in our article on creating your ideation workspace, these values can be changed if needed.
As always the default values are the ones you have chosen as default when creating your ideation workspace. Once all mandatory fields have a value, you can submit your idea.
Default Page layout
When creating your page it will be created within the standard page layout. This layout is intentionally kept very simple but you can make it as complex and as rich as you want it to be because you can build it up like any other page inside Atlas. As well as the standard header with the banner image and author, the page has following webparts enabled:
Page Properties (Atlas)
You can now configure the properties to show whatever page properties you like. The "Status" probably is a value you'd like to show but you can show any page properties depending on your needs:
Voting (Atlas)
It is important to understand that as soon as the Voting webpart is enabled on a page, the "Like" icon in the "Comments" area below the page is not available anymore, because voting uses the same data.
The Voting webpart has various layout options (show / hide) for each element in the webpart, allowing you to customise the webpart to some extent.
Quick Links (named "Attachments" in this layout)
We also added in a Quick Links webpart but we called it "Attachments" as that sounds more logical for this type of scenario and content:
IMPORTANT NOTES:
If you use the "Upload" option to add a document as a Quick Link / Attachment, you need to be aware that this document is NOT showing up in search as it is saved in the "Site Assets" library of your workspace. If you want the document to be searchable you need to first upload the document somewhere in your documents library and than add it as a link in the Quick Links webpart.
The Idea page itself is searchable.
In Focus Everywhere Results (Atlas) PREVIEW
The last pre-configured webpart we added is an In Focus Everywhere Results webpart and we called it "Related Ideas". Once again this webpart is highly configurable giving you a lot of flexibility.
